Beautiful Day

I love living in Colorado! The biggest surprise to me when I moved here was the climate. The arid conditions with only 8-15” of annual precipitation and more than 300 days of sunshine a year. Winters are mild and snow doesn’t stay on the ground long unless you live in a north facing house like we do. Our neighbor’s yard looks like the tropics while we look as if we live in the north pole. Summer has low relative humidity with sun-filled days and cool, comfortable evenings.

Because of these beautiful conditions Colorado ranks among the healthiest states in the nation. Colorado is the leanest state with some of the lowest rates of obesity, diabetes, and hypertension in the country.

I play tennis regularly and I will do a hike here and there and try to road bike on Sundays. By my Pgh standards I am practically a pro athlete, but living in Colorado makes me almost inactive. For instance, this morning I was going to get up early and for a bike ride, but I slept in till 7:30am and it was so hot and I was moving slow and missed my ride. As I look on Instagram there are postings of everyone finishing their morning hike, bike ride, run, rock climb, etc. before the heat gets oppressive. YIKES I immediately go to the Instagram posts about food, drinks and clothes and then I feel happy again.

Walking in Boulder being a plus size is like being an animal in a zoo. I kid you not. The few unfit or overweight people are either a tourist or the few residents who threw away their scales.

I want to look at the positive side of life on this beautiful day. I did a hour of house work which burns about 140 calories and I did a hour of ironing and laundry which is another 150 calories so I figure I earned myself two glasses of wine – Bring it on!
